18 x 24 in lighted snowy spruce canvas
5 lighted village houses and 9 mini trees
Two remotes, timer on the canvas

A lit canvas and a village to match

Give the mantel a whole winter scene with this pair. The 18 by 24 inch lighted canvas of a snowy spruce hangs above. Below it, 5 white village houses and 9 mini trees glow along the shelf. The painting and the little street read as one picture.

The two pieces run on separate remotes. The canvas has its own remote and a timer for 3, 6, 9 or 12 hours. The village set comes with a second remote for the houses. Keep both in a drawer near the mantel so nobody has to hunt for the right one each night.

The Lighted Village and Wall Decor Set sits on the Christmas shelf of the Oriental Cherry holiday range.

Before it goes up

Check the cord and the bulbs when it comes out of the box and again each season, and retire a set with a frayed cord. Keep lights that are meant for indoor use inside, do not chain more light sets together than the instructions allow, and switch it off when you go to bed or leave the house.

This is general information about decorating for the holidays, not safety advice for your home. The instructions in the box come first, local fire rules can be stricter, and anything with a plug, a battery or small parts deserves a look at the age and the label before it goes up.

What the safety sources say

Look for the "fire resistant" label on an artificial tree, use flameless candles whenever possible, never leave a burning candle unattended, never string together more than three sets of incandescent lights and never overload an outlet. Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control: NFPA tips to keep the holidays fire-safe. Use lights that carry the label of an independent testing laboratory, note that some lights are for indoor or outdoor use but not both, replace sets with worn or broken cords or loose connections, keep a tree at least three feet from any heat source and never let it block an exit.
